One of The Energy Practice core business areas is work relating to the reduction of Carbon. We specialise in supply chain analysis through to process and building studies. Many of our studies result in money savings in both procurement and operating costs.
We are championing our belief that every product should have a Carbon stamp, stating the Carbon used back through all tiers of the supply chain to basic resources.
Key Considerations When Considering
Carbon Reduction & Government Targets
In 2002 the Carbon Trust identified that UK business and public sectors accounted for annual emissions of 54MtC or around one third of total UK carbon emissions. The Carbon Trust continued their analysis to investigate the potential to reduce these emissions and concluded the total theoretically achievable reduction was 12.7 MtC.
Of this 12.7 MtC the Carbon Trust identified that 7.9 MtC (62%) could be achieved from measures that are cost-effective and would lead to net financial gains to companies if fully implemented.
Further analysis by the Carbon Trust determined the split of the cost effective savings between Buildings and Manufacturing Process.
Excluding Large Energy Intensive Industry; the remining Large Non Energy Intensive Sector, Public Sector and Small to Medium Enterprise,
building stock represents 73% of the potential cost effective savings to be achieved by 2020.
As a consequence the Government will be targeting policies towards this building stock as the easiest quick gain reductions.
