Carbon Footprinting
Carbon Footprinting
Carbon emissions need to be reduced, it is fundamentally important and carbon footprinting is all about reducing emissions. The Carbon Trust defines a carbon footprint as, “the total set of greenhouse gas emissions caused directly and indirectly by an individual, organization, event or product”. Establishing the carbon footprint of your business is just the starting point; it is the gateway to improvement and provides the starting point to identify areas of improvement. These areas of improvement can range from influencing the way your staff travel or where and how supplies are procured to building operation and manufacturing processes.
The Energy Practice was created in 2000 before much of the carbon footprinting hype started. We really understand buildings, plant, controls, power, lighting and how energy is used. We do not just talk about reducing emission, we know how buildings should work and we know how to engineer solutions that work. Our strap line “Efficiency in Design” is much more than a gimmick.
Candidly, we are not a company created from nowhere after reading a few government papers and spotted a new business opportunity. You will be surprised how many of these businesses are out there.
So how is all this relevant to Carbon Footprinting? We are engineers, we are to the point and analytical. Right here we should be offering you up a section of doom and gloom and how your company needs us or we are going to drown or burn, we will save that for our competition. Our approach is logical, practical and realistic.
We provide a complete turn key solution to company carbon footprinting, we establish the footprint and then work with management to establish the most beneficial and cost effective reductions first; quite often starting with staff and management training.
Carbon reduction often leads to cost savings and energy savings as management processes and supply chain processes are improved. Often investment is needed to see improvement and we see many claims from competitors on how much they can save companies energy spend, we have seen claims of up to 70% after a few years.
We can assure you that we explore every possible avenue to save company expenditure and there is real opportunity to make savings but we do not make wild claims that only apply to the very poorest performing companies, it is just misleading.
