Energy Surveying & Implementation
Building stock represents 73% of the potential cost effective savings targeted by the Government for 2020 (see our Carbon section).
These saving need to be found and implemented.
The Energy Practice provides services designed to drive business towards these energy savings and reap the cost savings associated with them.

Where we really deliver value is our ability to take the identified energy savings and deliver sensible engineered solutions for their delivery. So often we see over optimistic ideas for saving energy implemented in a poorly thought out manner with large capital investment. We acknowledge significant capital investment is often required but only when proven payback can be achieved.

We champion the principles of staff training as a way of saving energy. The Energy Practice can motivate and inspire your staff to make energy savings at work and at home. Using proven managerial approaches staff, often with employer incentives, can have a major impact on reducing building energy use.

Where appropriate we can advise our clients on the use of renewable forms of energy such as wind, solar, geothermal or energy derived from renewable energy crops such as bio-diesel and biomass. We are also very experienced in grant identification and grant applications.

Our work with the Carbon Trust has led to advice for energy reduction to many clients from different industry sectors including food processing and packaging, food storage and production, hospitals, commercial buildings, public sector buildings, educational buildings and large university campuses.

Complimentary to good energy management is the introduction of a defining environmental policy. The introduction of a company Environmental Management System enables auditable and verifiable mechanisms to be firmly entrenched in the staff and company practice.

The Energy Practice prepares and helps management implement effective company environmental policies.
The Energy Practice is able to guide your company through the processes required to attain ISO14001 accreditation with a strategy to provide continuous improvement into the future centred on your buildings management programme since carbon footprint contributes to procedures and records required by ISO 14001. Additionally your Environmental Management Systems will achieve real cost benefits whilst focused on carbon reducing measures.

At least part of the reason for having an Environmental Management Systems is to ensure compliance with legislation. Knowledge of the law is therefore essential to assess the effectiveness of the system. Auditing carries a responsibility to ensure that the audit team includes competence in environmental legislation. Legislation is in turn central to many parts of the Environmental Management Systems:

The policy, which will carry acommitment to complying with legislation
The procedure to identify legal and other requirements
The procedure to evaluate significance of environmental effects
          The objectives and targets

Product Life Cycle Analysis is useful for identifying environmental impacts and the organization implementing an Environmental Management Systems may or may not have an influence on many of the facets included in the life cycle analysis, hence the application of significance. The Environmental Management Systems will account for the core elements:

          Environmental Policy
          Planning
          Implementation and Operation
          Management Review
          Continual Improvement

Accompanying the Environmental Management Systems will be reference to how the company manages the processes of monitoring and measurement procedures and records. The Energy Practice will help your organization put in place the right platforms to achieve certification of your Environmental Management Systems:

          The environmental manual, if appropriate
Policy, objectives, targets and associated action plans
          Operational procedures and criteria
          An evaluation of environmental aspects
